Overview

The Indian economy is poised for growth. However, the challenge of inclusion of the poor and underprivileged in this growth has to be addressed by each individual, organization, as well as government leader. The success of the pioneers of microfinance has propelled a movement in the industry; financial services tailored to the needs of poor people have contributed to poverty alleviation, social justice, and improvement in quality of life and human dignity. With financial inclusion gaining such a momentum, India is on the brink of a revolution.

The India Financial Inclusion is a collaborative effort by The Economic Times and industry constituents, including the Indian banking sector. Second in the series, this year’s summit will provide a platform for knowledge sharing on the theme of “Inclusion as a driver for growth.”

The Economic Times India Financial Inclusion Summit 2008 was an important milestone in our agenda, as it brought together key stakeholders in the Government, including Dr C. Rangarajan, Chairman in the Economic Advisory Council to the P.M., and India Inc. on a common platform to share insights, debate, and outline key priorities for “Bridging the Financial Divide.”

The Economic Times India Financial Inclusion 2009 will once again bring together industry leaders and policy makers to take the discussion to the next step and the forum will identify factors that would provide the necessary impetus to the cause of microfinance in India.
